Do you install the equipment yourselves?
No, and that's on purpose. We're the expert on your side. We design the system, bring in professional installers we trust (licensed where New York State requires it), and oversee the work. Since we're not the ones holding the drill, our whole job is making sure it's done right.
Why not just call an installer directly?
You can, and many do a fine job of mounting and wiring equipment. But security is usually a side business for audio-video installers. Knowing where a camera has to sit to identify a face, or how an alarm gets defeated, takes a specialist. We give your installer an exact plan and check that it was followed.
Can I use an installer I already know?
Yes. If you already have someone you trust, we'll hand them a clear plan, answer their questions, and check the finished work, so you get the benefit of both.
I already have cameras or an alarm. Can you help?
Absolutely. A security checkup is a great place to start. We review your home the way a burglar would, look at your cameras after dark, and give you a written list of what's working, what isn't, and what to fix first.
What's Ubiquiti UniFi, and why do you recommend it?
UniFi is professional-grade networking and camera equipment made by Ubiquiti. It gives you strong Wi-Fi throughout the house, keeps cameras on their own protected network, and puts your Wi-Fi, cameras and doorbell in one app, with no monthly fees. It's our specialty.
Do I have to sign a contract or pay a monthly fee?
No. You own the equipment and the recordings. If you'd like professional alarm monitoring, we'll explain the options and what they cost so you can decide, but nothing we plan requires a monthly plan.
I'm not very good with technology. Is this for me?
Absolutely. That's exactly who we plan things for. We keep it simple, show everyone in the house how to use it, and leave a one-page guide on the fridge. If something's confusing later, just call.
Do the two-way radios need a license?
The family radios we recommend use GMRS, which needs an FCC license: $35, no exam, good for ten years, and it covers your immediate family. We'll walk you through it. The off-grid text messaging radios don't need a license at all.
What does it cost?
The first conversation is always free. After the assessment, you get a written proposal with our fee and the estimated installation cost before any work begins. Nothing happens until you say yes.
